Russell Martin is close to signing a contract with Southampton

Coach Russell Martin is close to signing a contract extension with Southampton that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Martin led Southampton to an immediate return to the Premier League last season after Transfer from Swansea City.

As a reward, he will receive a new contract, which is essentially a one-year extension of the contract he signed last summer.

The former Norwich defender was given a three-year contract and led Southampton to a 25-game unbeaten streak, a club record, before finishing fourth in the Championship last season.

Saints beat Leeds United 1–0 in the play-off final, securing an immediate return to the top division after relegation in May 2023.

Martin has also been at the forefront of the Saints summer recruitment since the Departure of former football director Jason Wilcox to Manchester United.

Southampton is in Talks to bring in Flynn Downes back to St. Mary’s after his successful loan last season.

The club hope to sign the West Ham United midfielder in a swap deal, while defender Kyle Walker-Peters is going the other way.
